Directions by Car

There are two main routes from San Jose, but we recommend the following:
New Toll highway (HWY 27) & coastal road: Takes 3 to 3.5 hour from San Jose International Airport and the shorter and quickest way from the Airport in San Jose to Alturas using the new toll highway.
Travel on Route 1 toward San Jose for a little over 12 kilometers. Exit to Route 39 toward Hatillo/Escazu for approximately 2.5 kilometers. Exit Route 27 toward Orotina/Jaco. There is a quicker way to 27 if you are familiar and comfortable with Costa Rican roads. You can check Googlemaps. After 58 kilometers on Route 27 exit Route 34 toward Jaco. You are now on the Costanera highway. You will travel approximately 150 kilometers to our exit. After you pass Dominical, you will drive 7 kilometers (watch this) and see our signs. Our signs will be on your right. There are two signs; one yellow with a sunrise and the other blue and white with our name very prominent. Engage your 4X4, turn left and drive 800 meters to Villas Alturas. You will first see Villa Toucan at the bottom and a set of stairs leading up. Pass that parking pad and come up and around to the entrance. You will park on a large gravel parking area. You will know you are here when you see an entrance flanked by a couple of stone figures. Get ready to enjoy!
Getting to Villas Alturas
Private Driver
By prior arrangement Villas Alturas can arrange private land transfers from San Jose Airport or your hotel with comfortable private driver. The drive is about 3 to 4 hours. The current rate is approximately $250 each way. Once at Alturas we can also make rental car arrangements and have them delivered to the villas. Please contact us for latest price details.
By Air
Regional airlines Nature Air (www.natureair.com) and SANSA (www.flysansa.com) operate regular flights from San Jose to Quepos and Palmar Sur. You can have a rent a car delivered to the airport and it’s an easy half hour drive down (up) the coastal highway or we can arrange for a transfer.

Please note that there is mandatory insurance in Costa Rica regardless of rental company NOT covered by any credit card plan you may have, this varies between $13 to $20 per day depending on model. Make sure this is included in your quote. We are more than happy assist you with your rental requirements so please do not hesitate to ask us.
Shared Shuttle Bus
Various shuttle bus companies offer point to point transfer to Uvita, please note that none of these companies have 4x4 as such best travel to Uvita Information Center and take a Taxi (4x4) about $8 each way. Interbus (www.interbusonline.com) or Shuttle Osa (www.shuttleosa.com)
